En 1987 Jean-Charles Sarrazin a la chance d’obtenir la 1ère bourse française pour étudier au Vietnam à l’école des « Arts Graphiques à Hanoi » (Đại học Mỹ thuật Công Nghiệp).

Pendant cette année, il rencontre de nombreux étudiants, enseignants, et artistes (Bùi Xuân Phái, Trần Trọng Vũ, Trịnh Tuân). Avec eux, en vélo ou en tramway, il sillonne la ville de Hanoi, ses provinces, ses festivals et les pagodes dans les villages avoisinants toujours équipé de ses deux appareils argentiques 24X36. L’un pour le noir et blanc, l’autre pour la couleur.

40 ans plus tard, JC Sarrazin, offre ce témoignage sur les années 80 aux jeunes générations. Cette période vécue par leurs parents et leurs grands parents, heureuse et dure à la fois, au sortir de la guerre, et quelques années avant le renouveau économique connu sous le nom de Đổi Mới.

 

L’artiste Trần Trọng Vũ et l’écrivaine THUAN ont écrit de très beaux textes sur ses images, mais aussi livrent un témoignage très personnel sur cette période.

In 1987, Jean-Charles Sarrazin had the rare opportunity to receive the very first French scholarship to study in Vietnam, at the Hanoi University of Industrial Fine Arts ( Đại học Mỹ thuật Công Nghiệp ).

During that year, he met numerous students, teachers, and artists, ( Bùi Xuân Phái, Trần Trọng Vũ, and Trịnh Tuân). With them, by bicycle or by tram, he explored Hanoi, its surrounding provinces, traditional festivals, and village pagodas, always equipped with his two 24X46 cameras: one for black and white, the other for color photography.

Forty years later, Jean-Charles Sarrazin offers younger generations this visual testimony of the 1980s, a time their parents and grandparents lived through, marked by a life that was both happy and difficult, as in the aftermath of the war, and just a few years before the country’s economic renewal known as Đổi Mới.

Trong năm đó, ông đã gặp gỡ nhiều sinh viên, giảng viên và nghệ sĩ (Bùi Xuân Phái, Trần Trọng Vũ và Trịnh Tuân).
